Bookmark Bar Switcher Help

Import and export

The Settings page backs up and restores your bars as JSON files, one bar at a time. Export saves a bar to a file; import always adds a bar, so a restore can never overwrite what you already have. In every case, the visible bookmark bar is never touched - only your saved sets.

  • Export this bar to a JSON file - the export icon on each bar saves that single bar (its name, bookmarks, and folder structure) to its own JSON file.
  • Import bar… - the button beside Add bar loads a bar from a JSON file. It always arrives as a new bar named after the original with the export date in parentheses, for example dev (2026-07-16). It never replaces or empties an existing bar.

Because import adds instead of replacing, you can restore a backup right next to the original, check it is what you wanted, and only then delete the one you no longer need - so a bar can never be erased by an accidental import. Use export to move bars between Chrome, Edge, and Firefox, or to keep a backup before a major reorganization or a browser reinstall.
