What's new

2.0.0 — 2026-11-06

  • FFmpeg Audio Studio has a new name and a work view. It was Audio Converter; it now does more than convert, and the installer, the Start menu entry and the settings folder carry the new name. A new work view opens first: one file at a time, with its waveform, real playback with your effects applied, volume and mute, one-second steps and a cut set with the [ and ] buttons. The first two buttons of the header switch between the work view and the batch view, which keeps converting many files at once.
  • Fades by dragging. A fade in and a fade out are two handles on the waveform; drag them, or type the seconds.
  • Drawers instead of long forms. The channels, the equaliser, the compressor and the level have a drawer of their own under the waveform; the equaliser and the compressor are drawn as graphs.
  • Audio Effects. The effects list is renamed. The work view shows the standard effects as rows with a switch and adds the others from Add an effect; Effects listed in the work view in Settings chooses which are always offered.
  • Channels are an effect. Swapping left and right, one side on both, mixing to mono and the new mixing down to stereo are now an effect rather than a preset setting. Presets that had a channel choice are converted automatically.
  • See the exact command. A panel under the file list shows the ffmpeg command for the selected file, with Copy.
  • Number fields can be dragged with the mouse, and the work view's controls are compact.

1.5.0 — 2026-10-27

  • ffmpeg is installed and kept up to date by the app. It is no longer bundled or taken from your PATH: the app downloads the build yaiol approves into a folder shared by all yaiol apps and checks it. ffmpeg on the General tab of Settings shows the installed and the latest version, with Update; on a first run without it, Download ffmpeg installs it with a progress readout. The yac command line tells you when ffmpeg is missing instead of failing silently.
  • Far more effects, built from ffmpeg's own filters. The effects menu offers all of ffmpeg's audio filters, with an All category and buttons to open or close every effect at once. Each effect's settings are generated from the filter itself: times accept values such as 1:30, frame rates such as 30000/1001, colours have a picker, files and folders a chooser, every field can go back to its default, and a card can be dragged to change when the effect runs.
  • The hand-made effect editors are replaced by these generated effects, so silence trimming, volume, fades, channels, the equaliser, dynamics, tempo and the rest are now set the same way as any other effect.

1.0.3 — 2026-10-23

  • Every file keeps its own settings. Select some files, set the options panel and press Apply: those files now convert with the preset, tags, effects, destination and if-exists choice you picked, while the others keep theirs. Each row shows what it will use, and the bottom bar counts the selected files.
  • Timed lyrics are no longer lost. Lyrics held in an MP3, AIFF or WAV as a synchronised SYLT frame used to disappear on conversion; they now carry over as .lrc text.
  • Lyrics options in the tags setting. Embed the .lrc file as the lyrics takes the .lrc file beside the source as the lyrics of the new file, Lyrics in the tag chooses which ID3 frames are written (automatic, both, always USLT, always SYLT), and Remove the times when writing USLT removes the times from the plain-text frame.
  • A destination folder can be relative. convert, .\convert or ..\convert is counted from each file's own folder, so one destination serves files that sit in many folders.
  • Two spellings of one field no longer lose a value. A source with a PUBLISHER and an ORGANIZATION holding different values keeps both.
  • A date with a stray line break no longer doubles the year. An MP3 made from such a source used to carry two year frames.
  • A new version shows up as a card, with what is new in it. The strip across the top is gone: a small dialog opens on launch with the release notes since the version you run and a link to download it, and Don't show again keeps it quiet until a still newer version ships. Occasional yaiol announcements appear there too; Show news from yaiol in Settings turns them off. The Display tab is now called General.

1.0.2 — 2026-10-15

  • A command-line program, yac, now comes with the app and converts from a terminal with the presets, tag settings, effects and destinations you saved in the window. The installer can add it to your PATH; it asks, and the answer starts as no.
  • The equaliser is ten vertical sliders on one scale with a line at zero, so you set the curve by drawing it instead of typing ten numbers.
  • The "Add an effect" menu is grouped under Time, Level and Sound, each in alphabetical order, and the help is arranged the same way.
  • In the effects editor each field shows its unit beside it instead of inside its title, and number fields are only as wide as their values need; a fade is limited to just under ten seconds.
  • A preset's quality is a number field with its unit instead of a round dial, so you can type the exact bitrate.

1.0.1 — 2026-10-15

  • The choices that shape a run - preset, tags, effects, where the files go and what to do when one exists - now sit together in a panel at the right of the window, with the number of conversions, Convert and the open-folder button at its foot, so the header is left with the file actions.
  • The number of conversions at once now stops at the physical cores of the machine, which is what measured fastest; a higher value saved earlier is lowered to match.
  • The built-in destination is now called Source Folder, in every language.
  • The window can no longer be made too small to show its options panel.
