What's new
2.0.0 — 2026-11-06
- FFmpeg Video Studio has a new name and a work view. It was Video Converter; it now cuts, grades and converts, and the installer, the Start menu entry and the settings folder carry the new name. A work view opens first: one video at a time, with a picture you can play with its sound, a film strip and a sound band for a timeline, and a cut set with the
[ and ] buttons. The first two buttons of the header switch between the work view and the batch view, which keeps converting many files at once.
- The sound has its own effects. Video Effects and Audio Effects are two lists; the work view shows the standard effects as rows with a switch and adds the others from Add an effect, and Effects listed in the work view in Settings chooses which are always offered. Channels, level change and loudness moved there from the audio entries, and entries that had them are converted automatically.
- Fades by dragging. The picture and the sound each fade in and out with two handles on the timeline; drag them, or type the seconds.
- Drawers instead of long forms. Colour grading, curves, and the sound's channels, equaliser, compressor and level each have a drawer under the picture, and the panel can be hidden.
- Choose the encoder. Encode with in Settings and Encoder in a preset decide between the processor and a graphics card; the app tests which cards work, and Check the encoders again tests again. The separate graphics-card presets are gone, and so is the Quality (QP) setting.
- See the exact command. A panel under the file list shows the ffmpeg command for the selected file, with Copy.
- A picture for every video in the batch list, taken from the video itself.
- Number fields can be dragged with the mouse, and the work view's controls are compact.
1.5.0 — 2026-10-27
- Effects are now ffmpeg's own catalogue: choose from every effect the installed ffmpeg offers, grouped by category and searchable by name, set each one with ordinary controls, and drag them into the order they should run. A colour LUT, a turn or a watermark is no longer a special case; it is one more effect on the list.
- A new Tags choice decides which of a file's tags and chapters survive the conversion: keep everything except a list of names, or remove everything except a list, with
* standing for any run of characters. It replaces the old "remove the metadata" effect, and it works on a copied video too.
- FFmpeg Video Studio now installs and updates its own ffmpeg by itself, into a folder shared by every yaiol app, so nothing has to be found or placed by hand. A copy already on your computer is no longer used, so the app always knows what it is running. Settings > General shows the installed and the latest version, with an Update button.
- Choose "Pick Destination…" in the destination menu to send a conversion to any folder; the folder is kept in your list of destinations, named after itself.
- A notice tells you when a conversion finishes, with how many files were converted, skipped or failed. Settings > Notifications turns it off.
- A file that an effect names but that is missing now fails with that file's name instead of an ffmpeg message about a filter graph.
